Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 (depending on skills and experience)


DefiniGEN are an exciting, high growth Cambridge UK Biotechnology Company who provide iPSC derived disease models and CRISPR services to the life science and pharmaceutical sector. DefiniGEN uses its proprietary OptiDIFF production platform to robustly generate human cell types, including liver hepatocytes, pancreatic cells, and intestinal organoids, from induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs). This is a great opportunity to manage, run and mentor a team of scientists in the expanding team, as well as developing as an individual and contribute to the success of client projects.

This team leader will lead a multi-functional team of three with responsibility for culture, gene editing, and differentiation of iPSC for our service projects. The successful candidate will be an active leader of the team and participate in laboratory-based activities.  This role would involve some initial interaction with the clients to understand the project, assisting with the drafting of scope of work documents, but primarily the in-lab supervision of the project conduct and final reporting.  Typically, this position would be a 60:40 split between lab and office responsibilities and would therefore suit someone with previous line management experience, looking to step up to a team leader role.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead a multifunctional project team conducting service projects
  • Support the project team by attending client meetings with an aim to understand potential client projects
  • In conjunction with Head of Operations and commercial team, assist with the preparation of scope of work and associated documents
  • Supervise and participate in the conduct of client service projects within DefiniGEN’s laboratories
  • Report on project progress to the Head of Operations
  • Write risk assessments
  • Ensure staff within the team are appropriately trained and resourced
  • Assist with the design and conduct internal projects on process improvements


  • A degree in biological science and experience in a relevant field
  • Experience in some or all of : CRISPR gene editing, iPSC culture, iPSC differentiation, cell based bioassay
  • Two or more years of project management experience in a service environment
  • The ability to work in cross-functional groups to transfer technology between groups and support commercialisation
  • Excellent organisation skills, a quality / regulatory mindset, with enthusiasm and commitment to deliver client projects within tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, with a desire to mentor, lead and improve processes where possible
