Job description

DefiniGEN are an exciting, high growth Cambridge UK Biotechnology Company who provide iPSC-derived disease models and CRISPR services to the life science and pharmaceutical sector. DefiniGEN use its proprietary OptiDIFF production platform to robustly generate human cell types, including hepatocytes, pancreatic cells, and intestinal organoids, from induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs). Our platform-derived cell models provide off-the-shelf products, custom disease models and cell-based bioassays for the screening of therapeutic candidates. 

This is a laboratory-based position to work in one of our project teams. The candidate will be in charge of generating gene-edited iPSC lines, their differentiation into diverse cell types and the conduct and analysis of cell-based assays. It would be suitable for someone with at least three years of laboratory experience in the stem cell biology field (preferably in the industry). Full training will be provided.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Be the lab-based scientific lead for some of DefiniGEN’s client projects
  • Conduct of gene editing protocols including nucleofection and colony picking.
  • Differentiation of iPSC cells into hepatic, pancreatic, intestinal or other lineages and generation of banks.
  • Run cell-based assays.
  • Assist the project managers with the generation of project summaries and reports
  • Assist with the general process improvement and troubleshooting
  • Carry out general laboratory housekeeping and cleaning duties.


  • MSc. Degree in Life Sciences or equivalent with understanding of stem cell technology + at least three years of laboratory experience (E)
  • At least three years of experience of iPSC culture and differentiation (E)
  • Experience of gene editing using CRISPR-Cas9 (D)
  • Experience of running cell-based assays (D)
  • Capable of working to a schedule and delivery of a variety of challenging projects at a time within agreed deadlines (E)
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently when required (E)
  • Good communication skills (E)
