iPSCs from patient-derived cells hold great promise for studying disease. But generating iPSCs from patient derived cells can be challenging. Just as genetic variability between patients can affect the manifestation of the disease, that same variability can affect how easy-or difficult- it can be to create iPSCs from a specific patient's cells and then successfully differentiate those iPSCs into a mature cell type.
